The Dash project started in 2012 but was introduced to the general public in January 2014 by Evan Duffield under the name of XCoin. It was renamed on the same year to Darkcoin and then to Dash in 2015. Dash stands for Digital Cash, it is a decentralized payment system which is based on a blockchain and which allows anonymous transactions to be carried out. The aim is to make the use of cryptocurrency as simple, anonymous and fast as that of cash, cash. Dash is based on both a PoW consensus with X11 algorithm and a PoS Proof-of-Stake consensus with a network of masternodes.
