The EOS project was launched in June 2018 by Dan Larimer with the vision to be, in short, the replacement for Ethereum and to make it the most important platform for smart contracts and other decentralized applications. EOS is based on a delegate proof of stake system and has the advantage of being fast and energy efficient, but suffers from an extremely excessive centralization. The EOS system allows only 21 block producers, that is to say the 21 delegates with the most votes among all those existing, to add blocks to the blockchain.
